CENSUS 2010 IS HERE . . .

Posted by: Andy Evans on March 1, 2010

. . . and YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION! You have, or soon will, receive the Census 2010 form. The Census represents POWER, MONEY, and INTELLIGENCE, and is the most confidential form you will probably ever fill out.

POWER - The Census is the basis of how many representatives each state sends to Congress. Indiana lost one representative after the 2000 census by a margin that could easily be reflected in the undercount. The Midwest is projected to loose, all things remaining equal, representation to the western and southern states.

MONEY – The federal government distributes more than $400 billion annually to state, local and tribal governments based on formulas subject to census data. Indiana redistributes certain taxes, such as gasoline taxes, based in part on formulas that include population data. The more accurate the count, the better chance that each town, city and county will receive their fair share.

INTELLIGENCE – Your 10-Question Census 2010 form will ask you for a information such as the age, sex, and race of everyone living at that address. The aggregate (not personal) information is used by local agencies to determine needed services; by your local government to project growth, and by businesses to determine the feasibility of establishing or expanding a business.

CONFIDENTIALITY – Title 13 of the U.S. Code protects the confidentiality of all your information. The penalty for unlawful disclosure is a fine of up to $250,000 or imprisonment of up to 5 years, or both.
